The challenge

Eduzz is an online platform for selling info products and courses. The platform had a chronic problem with access control, as many users shared their login and password information with others. This caused security issues, as well as difficulties in managing access to platform resources. To address this problem, the design team worked in conjunction with the Product Management team to redesign Eduzz’s access control.

Approach

To start, I conducted desk research to gain insights into access control systems in similar platforms. From this research, I identified best practices and opportunities for improvement.
I identified that the access control structure needed to be redesigned to be easier to use and offer a better user experience.

The structure of the old access control:

The new structure:

I also conducted user research to understand user needs regarding access control. Based on this information, I developed a navigable HTML prototype (link for prototype) that allowed for more accurate usability testing. The prototype allowed users to test the new solution and provide feedback on their impressions.

Results

Based on usability testing, we redesigned Eduzz’s access control. The new solution offered a unified access control that allowed users to access all platform resources with a single login and password. Additionally, the access control structure was redesigned to be easier to use, with clear and well-organized options.

During usability testing, we also used the System Usability Scale (SUS) to measure user satisfaction with the new access control solution. The SUS is a standardized method for evaluating system usability and measuring user satisfaction. The SUS Score result obtained from the usability testing was 86, indicating that users were quite satisfied with Eduzz’s access control solution.

Conclusion

The new Eduzz access control offered significant advantages for users and the platform itself:

  1. Increased security: With unified access control, users no longer need to share their login and password information with others, which increases the security of the platform.
  2. Better user experience: The redesigned access control structure makes it easier for users to find what they need and perform the necessary actions.
  3. Increased customer satisfaction: By addressing the problem of login and password sharing, users feel more secure and satisfied with the platform, which can increase customer loyalty.
  4. Easier management: With unified access control, the Eduzz team can better manage access permissions to platform resources, reducing the need for manual management.
